Fromage américain or American cheese in English or simply American is a type of industrial melted cheese originating in the United States.

Normally white in color, it is artificially colored orange to resemble cheddar cheese.

It is typically used melted in cheeseburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches or used for mac and cheese.
