Baby food is food designed for infants between six and twenty-four months of age. Different from breast milk and artificial milk, baby food usually consists of porridge or purees.

In western countries, many brands of industrial food exist. It is of course possible to make the food yourself. Baby food is a transition from milk to adult food.

Food diversification

Dietary diversification refers to the period during which a baby begins to eat something other than milk. It starts at the earliest at the start of the 5th month. If breastfeeding, it can start later, and the baby can be exclusively breastfed for up to 6 months. Prepared baby food can greatly facilitate this sometimes delicate transition.

Diversification starts with vegetables cooked for lunch. Most vegetables can be donated, but it is better to favor easily digestible vegetables such as carrots and zucchini. In a second step, fruit can be offered in the form of compotes. Meat and fish can be introduced a month later, around the 6th month. With the exception of ham, it is best to avoid cold cuts. The child gradually changes from a smooth texture to a woven texture, then with pieces. Except for the meat, the pieces can be quickly proposed, so that the child discovers new textures and consistencies early and learns to chew. Rice and pasta can be introduced well cooked and mixed from 8 months.
