Maasdam

Maasdam

Maasdam is a cheese from the Netherlands. It takes its name from the locality of Maasdam, in South Holland, where it is made.

Maasdam cheese is wheel-shaped with a mass of approximately 13 kg for a fat content of 45% (28.6% fat in the finished product).

Like its famous neighbors Edam or Gouda, the Maasdam is sold in blocks or in slices. However, it can also be grated. It can therefore be found as an aperitif as well as on a sandwich, a gratin or a pasta dish.

Of fairly recent production, Maasdam is close to Emmental both for its flavor and for its large holes. It is a cheese made from pasteurized cow's milk with a mild flavor and a slightly fruity nutty aftertaste.
